Why do night birds, such as owls, see better at night?

--

Owls are nocturnal birds. This means they are most active at night rather than in the days. So, they need to hunt their food at night. Do you know what owls eat? They eat mice and other rodents which are also active at night. Owls have good vision at night. It is because they have more rods and not as many cones. This makes them lose their ability to see colors but they definitely see a lot better at night. Also, their eyes are very large in comparison to their body size, so they pick up a lot of light rays. Wondering what we call birds that are active in the day? They are called diurnal birds.

Do you want to know a real fun fact on owls? A group of owls is called a parliament. Now that’s quite funny!
