What is a Volcano?

--

A volcano is a mountain that has molten rocks beneath the surface of the earth. When there is a crack in the earth’s surface, the molten rock erupts out of the mountain. The molten rock is called lava.

The hot lava flows and causes destruction all around. Volcanoes can cause floods, earthquakes, and tsunamis. The lava may eventually cool down to form mountains and even fertile soil. A rough estimate says that there are 1510 volcanoes out of which 80 are under the oceans. Over half of the volcanoes are located in the Pacific Ocean in an arc called the “Ring of fire”.
