What does it take to become an astronaut?
Almost all the earlier astronaut were pilot. They knew how to deal with speed, danger and challenge. Neil Armstrong, the first man to walk on moon, was a test pilot before he became an astronaut. Yuri Gagarin, the first man to go into space, wet a jet fighter pilot. Today, astronauts need to have a lot of knowledge about computer technology. All the controls of the spacecraft are now controlled through computers.
All astronauts go through intendive training. Space mission are very dangerous and can be very expensive. Astronauts need to be trained how to deal with emergencies. For example, the craft may run out of fuel, then the craft needs to be brought back for immediate landing. They also need to learn to deal with weightlessness in space as there is no gravity there.
