**How do honey bees make honey ?

Honeybees use nectar in the flowers to make honey. Nectar is a sugar liquid found in flowers. They use their long, tube like tongues to suck the nectar out of the flowers and they store it in their ‘honey stomaches’. Bees actually have two stomachs, their honey stomach which they use to store nectar and their regular stomach.

The honeybees then return to the hive and pass the nectar to the other bees called “worker bees”. The workers bees suck the nectar from the honeybee’s stomach with their mouth. These bees then spread the nectar throughout the honeycombs where water evaporates from it, making it a thicker syrup. The bees make the nectar dry even faster by fanning it with their wings. Once the honey becomes thick, it is ready to be eaten. The honey is stored in the honey comb until it is eaten.

In one year, a colony of bees eats between 120 ans 200 pounds of honey.
